I have extensive experience of Product Management and Marketing, Storage Management Software, technical consultancy, design and pre-sales of Storage Software and Hardware solutions from HDS, EMC, IBM, Symantec, CA and HP, across all verticals, with particular expertise in the telco and communications, banking and finance industry verticals.

I also have considerable experience of leading technical and consulting  teams, developed over many years in high profile roles.

I believe I am diligent, committed, self motivated and conscientious in discharging my duties. April 2008 -present - Global Director of Third Party Software Product Management at Hitachi Data Systems (HDS)
 
The Global Director of Third Party Software Product Management, resonsible for all of HDS' reseller and OEM sofware products in the Storage Management and  Data Protection lines of business.

The role includes overall responsibility for all aspects of OEM and reseller software products in Storage Management and Data Protection, including selecting reseller and OEM software solutions, release schedules, pricing strategy, roadmap ownership, sales support, technical and commercial consultancy, and software solution training.

Notable successes in 2008 include launching new storage management solutions from Aptare, and launching new Data Protection solutions from IBM and HP, which have resulted in increasing and exceeding the sales targets for HDS software. I also product manage software OEM and reseller partnerships with HP, Aptare, IBM/Diligent, and CommVault.

March 2007 – April 2008. Global SRM Product Manager at Hitachi Data Systems (HDS)

The Global Product Manager for Storage Resource Management (SRM) heterogeneous software products. The role includes overall responsibility for all aspects of heterogeneous SRM strategy, including selecting Hitachi sourced and OEM SRM solutions, release schedules, pricing strategy, roadmap ownership, sales support, technical and commercial consultancy, and SRM solution training.

Notable successes include launching the HDS partnership with Onaro Inc for a software change and problem management solution from Onaro that was resold by HDS, and integrating this solution into the overall HDS heterogeneous SRM portfolio. I have also product managed software OEM and reseller partnerships with HP, Aptare, and Diligent.

October 2003 – March 2007. Software Product Management & Marketing Manager, Hitachi Data Systems

 March 2003 – September 2003.  Senior Solutions Engineer, InterSAN Inc

The Senior Solutions Engineer for InterSAN Inc in EMEA. A highly responsible and high visibility role encompassing overall design and implementation responsibilities for SAN Management Software products, primarily InterSAN PATHLINE. The customer base covers all main industry verticals, including Telco, Retail, Banking, Government, and Energy Utilities across the entire EMEA region. An essential feature of the role is close integration with InterSAN global partners and resellers, including HDS, and includes mentoring, training and pre-sales support for InterSAN partners and resellers.

Notable successes include establishing the first InterSAN customer sites in the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, Scandinavia and Benelux, and overseeing the ongoing pre and post sales support for existing and prospective customers, against intensive competition from Veritas, IBM, Computer Associates, CreekPath and Fujitsu-Softek.

The role provided an invaluable insight into the challenges faced by a storage startup company, and was invaluable in adding to the experience gained by working for several ‘blue chip’ storage companies.

April 2000 – December 2002.   Technical Account Manager, EMC Computer Systems

Technical Account Manager responsible for design & implementation of EMC Storage Solutions for Customer sites, and follow-up trouble shooting and problem solving. Creation of Technical Business Proposals and presentation to Customer. Creation of Financial and Technical Justifications and coordination of Partner, After-Sales, Customer Services and Professional Services, working closely with EMC Sales Teams and other EMC Business Divisions.

Notable successes include design and implementation of Enterprise Storage Solutions for Orange PCS, BT, SITA, and Netstore PLC, against intense competition from HDS, IBM, Compaq and Veritas.  

August 1998 – April 2000   Systems Manager, UKDCS, Milton Keynes.

The Senior UNIX Systems and Storage Administrator, responsible for maintaining 24 hour, 7 days a week High Availability of all the company UNIX Live and Development systems, and managing the Systems Team, which consisted of a mixture of permanent and contract staff. The UNIX platforms included Compaq ALPHA 8400s, 2100s, 2000s and DS servers, all running Compaq Tru64 UNIX Version 4. Responsibility for maintaining and developing large StorageWorks Media Systems of up to 1TB disc storage and StorageWorks Media Robot Systems. Development of a hot-start DR site. The role also included System Management of several DEC VAX VMS Systems.  

January 1995  – August 1998.     UNIX Technical Support Manager EDS

MOD – LISA, Arncott, Bicester, Oxon.

UNIX Technical Support Manager, responsible for managing a team of 5 system administrators, supporting, maintaining and developing a range of UNIX systems running both live and production stock control and financial accounting applications. The live systems ran on a 24/7 basis, with the team providing 24-hour on-call cover. These systems included Hewlett Packard 9000 series, K and D series; ICL Teamservers, DRS6000, and DRS3000; Motorola Unix, Mcdonnell Douglas Unix, and Sun Solaris workstations.

The  team also had full UNIX technical support responsibility for over 40 remote sites in the UK and Europe, running a diverse range of systems that included ICL Teamservers,  Sequent SE series, DEC Alpha, Sunos, and mid range Dell UNIX servers.                                     

In addition, the team had extensive involvement in a large scale Year 2000 UNIX  project, and provided UNIX advice and consultancy to a number of other EDS and MOD projects and customer sites.

December 1993 – January 1995.   UNIX Systems Administrator.

LISA, Arncott, Bicester, Oxon.  

Unix systems administrator in the above mentioned UNIX Technical Support Team. Promoted to Team Leader role in January 1995.

January 1989 – December 1993.   ICL VME Technical Support.

DLOGIS(A), Arncott, Bicester, Oxon.

One of a team of 4, supporting 4 ICL Mainframes on 2 sites at Bicester and Telford. The systems used were ICL 39 series and 2900 series mainframes, running stock control live and development systems. The role included all Technical Support functions including development of a hot-start DR site.
